Stock primary chain tensioner

Gear shifting became much smoother after product installation. The hard shift into first gear from neutral has been minimized (but not removed altogether). I am very happy with the performance of my 2001 FXSTDI (88 twin cam) following the installation of this hydraulic primary chain tensioner. Currently using HD transmission/primary oil. The stock HD auto tensioner will keep the chain rather tight compared to past models. There's usually no slack in the chain to be measured when using one of the newer type retrofits in an older bike. I personally don't like the new design because they run too tight and can cause damage to seals and bearings but that's just my personal opinion and they will have a habit of being noisy because of the tightness. Having the screw back out may be problematic but I have to wonder if the 75% isn't just normal wear, or rather the lack of it. My 1990 FLH has some 200,000 miles on the original primary chain. So it's very likely that 75% of 2017s haven't worn enough to move the tensioner. I only have 6000 miles on mine. I, as others have commented, don;t think a tin primary is going to be strong enough to mount a chain tensioner to. Also, I am confused where you talk about mounting this unit in place of the stock tensioner. As far as I know, no 58 Pan ever came with a stock tensioner. Alsowe do not reuse the I've got an 02 fatboy with about 18,500 miles and got into the primary today to check chain tension and do a fluid change (Amsoil primary fluid).
